Slingbox: Watch Your TV Anywhere

SLINGBOX 350 TURNS YOUR TABLET, SMARTPHONE OR LAPTOP INTO A TV.

The Slingbox is the only way to take your living room TV experience with you wherever you go. Many companies say they can give you TV Anywhere, but make sure you read fine print – some don’t work unless you are on Wi-Fi, while others only have small number of channels when you leave your house. And most of them don’t work if you travel internationally.

Only Slingbox gives you control of all of your channels and all your shows, live or recorded on your DVR, plus On Demand, anywhere there is an Internet connection.

PRIMETIME IS SOCIAL TIME

Like you, we love being able to sit down and catch up on shows we’ve missed on Amazon Instant, Netflix or Hulu. But sometimes, shows demand to be watched live – and only Slingbox give you all your live TV anywhere, anytime. Final episodes. Award ceremonies. Live reality shows. And if you don’t watch it, you’ll hear about it on the social networks. Stop worrying about people on Twitter and Facebook spoiling the ending or who won best comedy just because you weren’t at home.

Be the one to spoil it for everyone else.

REQUIRED FOR THE SPORTS FAN

Getting live games when you’re away from home can be a frustrating experience. Some services give you every game, except for your local team, which, for some reason, is blacked out. Others can show you the game you want on everything EXCEPT your mobile devices.

Keeping track of what you can watch on which device shouldn’t be this complicated. With a Slingbox, you know you will be able to watch all of the games on all the channels you subscribe to, on your tablet, smartphone or laptop – without extra monthly fees.

PUT LIVE TV IN YOUR STREAMING MEDIA DEVICE

You know that having a Slingbox will let you watch your TV anywhere, but did you know you can also watch it on a streaming device hooked up to your big screen TV? Be able to watch your cable or satellite subscription at your vacation home or in that TV in the bedroom or basement. All without extra monthly fees.

WHO NEEDS A SLINGBOX?

We’d like to think anyone in the world needs a Slingbox, but here are some examples of who our customers are and what they’re doing with their lives.

  • Sports fans and information junkies. Slingbox grants instant access to live sporting events without blackouts, and time-sensitive breaking national or local news.

  • Frequent travelers or expats. Take your home TV with you anywhere with an Internet connection. No streaming service or app can do that.

  • College students or snowbirds. No need to pay for another cable or satellite subscription where you are. Simply connect to your Slingbox at home from your laptop or mobile device, or use a Roku streamer connected to a TV.

  • Military personnel. Wherever they are deployed, they can stay connected to what’s going on at home.

  • Moms and Dads on the go. Wouldn’t you rather be watching the game while waiting for piano lessons to be done?

  • Anyone who wants to save a buck. No need for additional set-top boxes. Get TV in more places in and around the home, using gadgets you already own.

Question of PseudoSlySpyderGuyLied : Driver issue? JVC GR-D371U camcorder, have correct firewire, device unidentified, called support, Vista OS?

I’m trying to import video from my JVC Digital Video Camera, model number GR-D371U. I am able to import pictures (USB, plus computer has a SD card reader built-in if I don’t feel like dealing with cables).

I have a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable. When I plug it in (correctly) the computer tells me that “Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device” and I choose the first option to locate and install the driver software…then it tells me that the unidentified device is ready to use. It’s not.

I’ve tried going to the control panel, hardware and sound, scanners and cameras, then detecting a device or adding a device (the only option is a xerox machine). Again, the only disk I have does not deal with the camera’s videotaping capabilities, only the pictures, and the computer will not accept the installation disk for the picture uploading software as an additional option.

I’ve tried going into Windows Movie Maker and importing video. That doesn’t work and the message will read, “Import Video could not find a compatible digital video device. Verify that the digital video device is properly connected and turned on.” I’ve verified.

As a side note I have a built-in web camera. However, the video I have on my hand held camera is much more important at the moment, as I have hours of footage to be edited and put on disk as soon as possible.

Details again: JVC camcorder model GR-D371U, Windows Vista operating system, HP Pavillion dv2000, 4-pin firewire connecting computer to camera, WIndows Movie Maker, Cyberlink YouCam (for built-in camera).

Need to know what to do to import video from camcorder’s tape and have tried looking for drivers (google), asking jvc customer support, searching for camcorder through control panel.

Help! Help! Help! Please!!!

Answer by Little Dog

A couple more items to try…

First, USB and firewire devices behave differently – the communications protocols are very different. If the firewire card is working properly, then it will work. There are no “device specific” firewire drivers… but with USB, every individual item on USB must have its own individual driver installed corrctly and in the right place.

I hope the USB cable and the firewire cable are not connected to the computer and the camcorder at the same time. That is a quick way to fry a port. Firewire only, or USB only, please. Check My Computer for the Firewire – or 1384 – port and be sure it is active. If not, that is the place to fix, first. The firewire drivers need to be installed correctly and in the right place. You won’t see the camcorder in any control panel or add any camcorder hardware through the OS when firewire was used.

The camcorder needs to be in “Play” or “VCR” mode. This is the same mode you would use if the camcorder was directly connected to a TV using the AV cables. In this case, you are using the firewire cable and not the AV cable – but the camcorder still needs to be in “Play” or “VCR” mode.

MovieMaker can have “issues” with recognizing the firewire port. WinDV is a good tool to use to import the video from a DV camcorder. I have seen it work where MovieMaker failed. When the video is in the computer, you can drag the video clip to the MovieMaker Collections window or timeline.
