Answer by Dennis CThe Sony CX-110 (and its “big brothers” the CX-150 & XR-150) all use “touch screen” interfaces for the menus & features, but have no InfraRed (IR) sensor for a wireless remote, which most of Sony’s bigger camcorders have.
One of the sales agents at B+H Photo confirmed the lack of IR remote, but said there “should be” a plug for a simple start-stop wired remote. I didn’t see any mention of remote features in any of the reviews I’ve read, but I’ll try to download the Sony manual PDF & double-check.
I did see, on the B+H website, a 3rd-party (Equinox) underwater housing for the CX110/CX150 series, with features for start/stop, zoom, power, etc. But, again, these controls are listed as “mechanical” and not “wired”.
UPDATE edit: Looking at pp.37-39 of Sony’s manual, there is an AV-R connector marked “AV Remote”, but it is for connecting various Audio & Video output cables to TV/monitors via an assortment of optional cables from Sony. [SEE 2nd UPDATE BELOW]
Interestingly enough, there IS this paragraph regarding the HDMI connector and certain Sony BRAVIA model TV’s (p.39):
“You can operate your camcorder withthe remote commander of your TV byconnecting your camcorder to a “BRAVIA”Sync compatible TV launched in 2008 orlater with the HDMI cable. You can operate the menu of yourcamcorder by pressing the SYNC MENUbutton of the remote commander of yourTV. You can display index screens suchas VISUAL INDEX, play selected moviesor display selected photos by pressing up/down/left/right/enter buttons of the remotecommander of your TV. ”
The number of remote command features is limited, obviously since the intended use is for PLAYBACK of videos and photos onto the Bravia TV itself (no Record or Zoom, etc.).
2nd UPDATE (to Ahsan’s post): Both the LANC 8-Function Remote that Ahsan listed, as well as Sony’s expensive RM1B —$ 279! — remote, require a 2.5mm stereo-mini LANC jack (which the CX110 doesn’t have). But VariZoom makes the VZ-AV/LANC converter cable ($ 24.95 list – retails for less) which allows any LANC wired remote to work with this camcorder series, plugging into the AV-R socket I mentioned above. (See the VZ-AV/LANC on Full Compass Systems’ website: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/389690.html )
Since I see that you are a dancer, if you are wanting to use the remote to tape your choreography, you’ll probably want to add a longer cable to the remote if you won’t be near the tripod/camcorder. VariZoom also makes a LANC remote extension cable (this one’s 10′ long: http://www.amazon.com/Varizoom-Extension-cables-Panasonic-Controllers/dp/B000A42QWG/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1292666563&sr=1-3-fkmr1 ) for under $ 20.
So, by spending between $ 50-$ 70 total you should be able to have a useable remote control for your needs.
hope this helps,–Dennis C.

December 5th 2008 – A Day Late… A Guitar Hero ShortImage by Stephen PoffSo.. long story short, we had our office Christmas party this morning where we had breakfast and then did our traditional "dirty santa". We all picked numbers out of a hat and to my surprise I got the last number… which usually means you’re in good standing to get one of the better gifts.
So I kept my mouth shut and just watched. Our office manager had done something different this time and instead of us all buying gifts, the company bought the gifts. So there were some nice things like a Sony Bravia TV and an PS2 with Guitar Hero… and Guitar Hero was what Clarissa wanted for Christmas. So I kept my eye on the Guitar Hero and at the last minute swept it up. I was flooded with pride and overwhelmed by the coup… until the girl that I took the Guitar Hero from took something from someone else and then that person took it back from me. D’oh!!
So I ended up with a little handheld blender. But someone else wanted the blender and asked to trade it for a smoothie machine. I think Tam will like that better. But… I was soooo close!
